KEVIN SKOGEN, SENIOR PASTOR

Pastor Kevin Skogen grew up in eastern Washington State and graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA in 1983, and Covenant Seminary in St. Louis Missouri, in 1990. He is currently continuing his education through the Institute of Reformed Worship with Dr. Hughes Oliphant Old, sponsored by Erskine Seminary. In between his undergraduate work and seminary Pastor Skogen worked in jail evangelism for three years with Youth for Christ, Tacoma. After seminary Kevin returned to Tacoma and served as an associate pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church with senior pastor, Dr. Robert Rayburn. In 1993 Kevin became the pastor of Reformed Presbyterian Church, Lookout Mountain, Georgia where he pastored for almost 17 years before moving to the Sandhills and becoming the senior pastor at SPCA. Kevin met his wife, Dana, while in college at PLU and they were married in July 1983. Dana and Kevin have six children and at last count three grandchildren.

John Griessel was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan and lived nearby in Richland, Michigan until age 19 when he was called to faith in Christ and to Christian ministry. He met his wife Jan who was also attending Bible College in West Virginia and they married in 1979. He attended Covenant College and Covenant Seminary graduating with an MDiv in 1989 and an MA in Ethics in 2001. John served as a chaplain in the US Army for 21 years and retired in May of 2011. His duties took him to numerous locations in the US and around the world. Throughout the years they have worked together in military ministry in many locations and settings but feel called to commit themselves fully to our local body and settle down in Southern Pines. Their son Philip is attending Western Carolina University and serving in the Air Force Reserve at Fort Bragg.

Amy grew up in a small community in nearby Hoke County. She has been serving in music ministry since she was 14 years old in various capacities, including pianist, children’s choir, adult choir, and music director. She has been the music director here since 1995. She is married to her childhood sweetheart, Mark, and they have three children: Zac, Emily, and Sam.
