Pastors

Kevin Skogen, Senior Pastor

revkev@sandhillspca.org — (910) 692-5834, Ext. 11

Pastor Kevin Skogen grew up in eastern Washington State and attended Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA.  He played football there under the legendary coach Frosty Westering, who was a tremendous Christian influence in his life.  As the Captain of the Football Team, Pastor Skogen led PLU to two National Championship games.  He met his wife, Dana, while in college at PLU and they were married in July 1983.  They have six children:  Jacob (24), Caleb (22), Seth (20), Joseph (18), Annie (16) and Bonnie Lynn (14).  They have one grandson, Joseph (16 months) and two daughter-in-laws.  In addition to spending time with his family, Pastor Skogen enjoys reading and coaching football/basketball (and in the process developing Christian young men).

Before attending Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, Pastor Skogen served in Jail Evangelism with Youth For Christ for almost four years.  After seminary, he returned to Tacoma, WA, and served as the Associate Pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church under Senior Pastor Dr. Robert Rayburn.  He then served as the Senior Pastor of Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, for 16+ years.  He has also had many speaking engagements over the years.

Drew Martin, Assistant Pastor

drewmartin@nc.rr.com — (910) 692-5834, Ext. 12

Drew Martin grew up in California; Michigan; and Okinawa, Japan; but he has lived in the south long enough to consider it home and develop a love for sweet tea. Drew is a graduate of Pinecrest High School, and he met his wife, Meg, while they were both students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They were married in 2002. Drew graduated with a degree in Political Science and Psychology but his real major was spending time with high school students in Durham as a volunteer Young Life leader. In 2003, after a year serving as a youth director at a church in Chapel Hill, the Martins moved to Massachusetts in order for Drew to attend Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He graduated in 2007 with a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Theology.

Drew is a big fan of Tarheel basketball; a lover of books, film, music, and the beach; has an interest in political theory; possesses a general affinity for all things “old-school;” and he and Meg have a daughter named Charli and are expecting a little boy in August.

Chip McAulay, Assistant Pastor

[Church Planter, Lake Tillery Presbyterian Church]

chipmcaulay@nc.rr.com — (910) 692-5834, Ext. 16

Pastor Chip is a native of Mount Gilead, NC and so he considers himself to be a native of the Sandhills. He was an art major at Virginia Commonwealth University and a business major at Stanly Community College. He is married (August 1986) to the former Carol Haithcock, also of Mount Gilead, and has two boys, Cameron and Boone. Prior to his second life in the ministry, he spent some time in Real Estate, was President of Mt. Gilead Insurance Agency from 1992-1999, and was Vice President of the Uwharrie Insurance Group from 1999-2002.

Chip was ordained as a Ruling Elder in the PCUSA at age 25, and he has always had a big heart for missions. He was the drummer and lyricst for the Christian rock band, JITOA (Jesus Is the Only Answer) from 1988-2003, with evangelism being the band’s primary mission. After many, many years of fighting a call to full time ministry, he finally gave in and enrolled at Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte in 2001. He graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 2006.

Chip, Carol and their children have been called to plant a church on Lake Tillery.  Lake Tillery Church began its worship services in March 2010.

In his free time, Chip likes to spend time with his family, do yardwork, and play the drums.

Mike Windish, Pastoral Intern

mwwindishjr@yahoo.com — (910) 692-5834, Ext.23

Mike Windish was born in St. Louis, MO and spent most of his childhood in Texas and Oklahoma, but he has resided in North Carolina for a little over twenty years. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Industrial Technology and Education. (he is also one course shy of a Masters in Industrial Management from East Carolina University). However, this is on hold while he completes a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte. He has served in the United States Marine Corps, has taught in the NC Public School system as well as the Department of Juvenile Justice, and has worked in management for various manufacturing corporations.

Mike married Heather - his “best friend” and the love of his life - soon after graduating from college, and he is the father of four boys and two little girls. Mike and Heather also have three big old male Black Labs and a little female Jack Russell. With all of the busyness of daily life, Mike and Heather have faith that the Lord will strengthen their family and grow them together through Him.

Mike is an avid sports fan and loves coaching and playing a variety of sports (his favorite being baseball). He also enjoys cheering for the Wolf Pack and believes that deep down inside that everybody is a Wolf Pack fan.
